Saka Dawa (Vesak) Celebrations 2018

Registration is closed for this event

Saka DawaThe Buddhist world has one and only historical Buddha, Shakyamuni, whose Birth, Enlightenment and Great Passing Away all occurred on the same day of the year - the Full Moon of the fourth month of the Tibetan Calendar, (which often falls in May in the Western Calendar).

This sacred month is known as ‘Saka Dawa’ in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition (or 'Vesak' in other traditions). It is believed that anything one does in the month has 100,000 more merit than at any other time of the year.

According to Tibetan Buddhist calendar, this year that sacred Full Moon of Saka Dawa falls on Tuesday 29th May. While we host the annual Nyung-ne retreat to honour this auspicious month in SIBA, this year we are also celebrating Saka Dawa at the centre at Evatt.

You are cordially invited to celebrate Saka Dawa and participate in the 16 Arhat Puja, followed by a shared supper. We will invite some of the monks from various traditions and Buddhist community leaders for this special occasion. All are welcome.

Note: This event will replace the regular Tuesday evening teachings.

Please bring food and drinks to share. Please click here to RSVP for the event so we know how many will be attending.
