We would love your help!  Please become involved in the Tibetan Buddhist Society of Canberra (wherever you might live)!

Have you got any spare time that you would like to utilise doing something worthwhile that benefits many? Please have a look at the volunteer positions below.

Do you know how to co-ordinate volunteers? Do you like to help others to help?!

• We have a list of jobs below to suit a range of people. We believe that there is not a lack of willing helpers/volunteers, just a lack of clearly defined jobs and someone to co-ordinate these.

Transcribers and Editors

• We have a few projects on the boil with the wish to get Rinpoche's teachings out to many.
• Do you have nay special skills - eg touch typing, editing, type setting or layout?

Projects:

2). Magical Net of Elegant Sayings - transcribers needed

Administrational Assistant

• Do you have admin skills - answering phones and emails, updating websites, editing texts and prayer booklets, Excel spread sheets, MYOB, accounting, filing etc etc? We need your help!
• Currently we are looking for volunteers who can commit a 1/2 day a week or full day a fortnight (more time also welcomed) to assist the main committee members of SLCD.

Message Stick

• The Sakya message stick reaches out to hundreds of people to inform them of upcoming events. It is via yahoo email services and can be done from anywhere.
• Do you have knowledge on online email systems? We need messages to be sent out promptly and details to be updated.

Fundraising

• Have you got ideas of how to help the centre to generate income?

Brochure production and distribution

1). Brochure production

• Do you have desktop publishing skills or are you handy on the computer? Would you like to assist the centre to create beautiful flyers that catch attention and are cost effective?  Are you good at proof reading? We'd love to hear from you!

2). Brochure Distribution

• Co-ordination of volunteers to distribute flyers.
• Or do you like to go for walks and drives through Canberra? Or are you often passing places where it would be good to hang flyers? Download a list of places ...

Cleaning at Evatt

• We have had the privilege of having two very reliable members cleaning regularly at our centre in Evatt. One of them is going overseas and we are seeking a person who wouldn't might a couple of hours of light cleaning a fortnight (more hours always welcome).

Clear Mind proof readers

• Do you like proof reading and have access to email? We are seeking eager helpers to assist bi-monthly with the proof reading of Clear Mind Newsletter draughts.

Maintenance Virupa and Evatt

1). Maitenance

• Do you know how to fix things and do you like doing that? We are looking for a list of handy people that we can call upon in the case of leaky pipe sort of emergencies to change the washer type situations! Also both venues are usually in need of some TLC as far as maintenance goes - eg lawn mowing, gardening, gutter cleaning, painting and general repairs.

2). Working bee co-ordinator

• Do you know how to get people working together as a team? Do you like a challenge? We need someone who would like to assist the residents at VRC to organise effective working bees (ie where more than 3 people show up!)

Website

• Do you have skills in website design or coding? There are a few aspects to our site that we would like to add/improve on. Actually the site was never properly finished!
• Do you have basic computer skills? We also need assistance to update the website - it's actually quite easy to do, we just need a person who can commit to this.

Notice board

• Have you noticed our board at Evatt? Maybe not...have you noticed how difficult it is to see upcoming events on it? We are seeking someone with a creative flair to bring upcoming events to the fore!

Catering and Co-ordination

• Have you enjoyed the food at Virupa before? Would you like to assist in co-ordinating volunteers and shoppers for retreats at VRC?
• Do you like to cook vegetarian food? Would you like to contribute to retreats hosted by SLCD? Food can be cooked at home and frozen or done onsite. All expenses will be reimbursed.
• Do you like shopping at the markets? We are always seeking people to assist with buying food for events. All expenses will be reimbursed (if we do not have an account with the shop).
• Do you like being a kitchen hand, chopping, chopping and chopping? Would you like to serve soup to 30 smiling retreatant faces? We would love your help on-site during events at VRC.

Retreats

• Do you like cleaning and co-ordinating? We do a lot of this before retreats at VRC! We would love your help - everything from vacuuming rice in the shrine room to sweeping the verandas - and every bit helps!

Marketing and advertising

• Do you have any experience in the above? Do you know how to do advertisement layouts for newspapers (or are you willing to learn?)

Sound and recordings

• Would you like to assist Kath with the sound recoding/editing at events? Or would you like to be a back up for Paul with recording audio/visuals on DVD?
