Use
our simplified map to get to the Virupa Retreat Centre, the
bastion of Dharma located on the northern slopes of the Taliesin
Hills.
We
are 30 minutes' drive from the civic centre of Canberra, 15
minutes' from Queanbeyan ($60 cab fare).
Our
turn-off is 11km down Captain's Flat Road.
Once
you're on Douglas Close, our driveway is 1.8km on the left.
Our
maroon letterbox is marked "VIRUPA 179" and you'll
see colourful prayer flags on our gates.
Please
drive at a safe speed up our steep driveway.
At
the top of the driveway, go through the gate straight ahead
and find a parking spot.
Directions
It’s
easy to get there if you use the trip meter on your car.
From
Canberra:
- Northside
- drive towards the airport then follow our map
- Southside
- drive into Queanbeyan then follow our map
From
the South Coast:
- from
Bateman's Bay, take the King's Highway (along the Clyde
Mountain) towards Canberra
- go
through Braidwood and continue to Bungendore then choose
route (A) or route (B) below
Bungendore
- Virupa (A) the simple way (34km):
- continue
along the Kings Highway through Bungendore (towards Canberra)
for 21km
- turn
left on to Captain's Flat Road then follow our map
Bungendore
- Virupa (B) dirt road shortcut (22km):
- once
in Bungendore, continue straight until the railway crossing
- turn
left on to Ellendon Street (third left)
- continue
straight along Ellendon Street, which becomes the Bungendore-Captain's
Flat Road, for 11km
- turn
right onto Briars Sharrow Road then drive for 6km
- turn
right on to Captain's Flat Road at the Eleven Mile turn-off
then follow our map
From
Sydney:
- drive
along the Federal Highway toward Canberra
- keep
track of the distances on the signs as you approach Canberra
- 19km before the distance to Canberra is the Sutton Road
turn-off
- turn
left on to Sutton Road (toward Queanbeyan) then drive for
19km
- turn
left on to Yass Road then drive for 2km
- turn
left on to King’s Highway at the Spotlight Roundabout
(towards Bungendore) then follow our map
